VILLAGE BOYS MOVEMENT CONDEMNS THE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON PETER OBI — EDO STATE GOVERNMENT AND ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS MUST BE HELD RESPONSIBLE

The Village Boys Movement expresses its total outrage at the reported assassination attempt on Peter Obi in Edo State. This was not a random security incident. It was not an accident. It was a calculated attack designed to intimidate, silence, and possibly eliminate a leading opposition figure in Nigeria.

An attack on Peter Obi is an attack on democratic participation itself. It is an attack on the constitutional rights of Nigerians to assemble, organize, and campaign freely. When armed actors can trail a political leader, open fire, and disappear without consequence, it signals a dangerous descent into state-enabled political terrorism.

We hold the Edo State Government morally and politically accountable for the security environment within its jurisdiction. The Governor cannot distance himself from violence that occurs under his watch, especially when opposition figures repeatedly face hostility and obstruction in the state.

We equally hold the All Progressives Congress accountable for the toxic political climate that has normalized threats, intimidation, and violence against dissenting voices. Political dominance does not grant a license for repression. Power does not excuse bloodlust.

Let it be clearly understood: Nigeria cannot drift into a system where opposition politics attracts bullets. The normalization of assassination attempts is the fastest route to national instability. Those who believe they can silence democratic momentum through violence misread the mood of the people.

The Village Boys Movement will not accept silence, delay tactics, or cosmetic investigations. Nigerians are watching. The world is watching. Impunity will not be tolerated.

We remain unbought, unafraid, and unrelenting in the defense of democratic justice. If institutions fail to act decisively, the people will respond through lawful, coordinated, nationwide civic mobilization to defend their rights and the sanctity of democracy.

Nigeria must not become a theatre of political assassination.
